What is “sin”? Is it merely just drinking and cursing and skipping church? Why is the word “sin” still important today?

If you were a minister near me I would go back to church. In any case, when I got sober someone defined sin as any act committed without love. I also read that we dislike in others what we see in ourselves. I am no philosopher but these two things clicked for me and I use them as a compass, albeit badly, it still works for me to keep myself mentally on a somewhat even keel.

Thank you so much for your kind words, my friend. I click with the two things you said, too. Profoundly simple and true.

Never thought of it in this way, though I know that all the things I used to do were just to fill a void within myself
